Making of BSC

My name is Jacqlyn Jones, a senior at Dozier-Libbey Medical High School and founder of the Black Students for Change Scholarship. This scholarship was created as a project for my Girl Scout Gold Award. Along with the help of my parents, I was able to put this project into action and fund the first generation of students receiving this scholarship.

After the protests that occurred this year in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, I was motivated to bring change to my own community. I wanted to inspire other students like myself to become passionate about changing the world and helping to bring social justice to the black community. Fundamentally, I wanted those my age to understand the importance of voting in order to facilitate this change, and thus made it a must for all applicants to be registered to vote.

It is important for Black students to feel that their voice matters as well, and that it is necessary for them to be knowledgeable about daily issues that affect themselves and their community.
